Our History
We are Mike, Sarah, Eric and Lucas Schroeder, and we are the owners of Lakeland Farms Inc. and Lakeland Feeds Inc. Our farming legacy is multigenerational, continued and passed on by Ian and Rose Schroeder. Mike has an education in Ag Science and Ag Business and Sarah is a school teacher, a 4H alumni and the hub of the wheel around our farm! In 2015 we moved from Abbotsford to Salmon Arm, started a family and started to build our farm with the help of Ian and Rose. We certified organic right away and transitioned in to grain production for the opportunities it offered in soil management, integration and local sales.
The first couple of years we built up equipment inventory, got educated in organic production and leased more land as opportunities arose. In 2017 we were awarded egg quota under BC’s New Producer Program, and we built our first layer barn placing in 2018. We knew early on that we wanted to build an on-farm feed mill to control our feed source and mill some of the crops we grow on the farm, as well as support other growers in the region. We completed the feed mill in November 2020, starting commercial sales of organic poultry feed in the spring of 2021 and retail sales in the fall of 2023. We now grow crops on 325 acres, house 8,200 organic hens, supply commercial and retail feed across BC and Alberta and graze a small beef herd annually. We are well on our way to our vision!

Our Team
Ian & Rose Schroeder
Ian & Rose provide valuable grandparent/farm help services in all capacities when they’re not fishing, hunting or horsing! They owned the dairy farm we grew up on and helped us get a start in Salmon Arm.
Calven & Chris Garrett
Calven & Chris are long time grain farmers from the peace region of Alberta. They provide crucial help through the season and wise council when we’re up against problems!
Jennifer Garrett
Jennifer grew up a farm brat, she’s highly organized, very detailed and remarkably “crafty”. She started as an egg collector and has rapidly increased her skills and abilities. She is now our bookkeeper, administrator, marketer, planner, and she’s occasionally in the egg barn and feed bagging area too. She keeps us between the rows!
Dayla Holleman
Dayla started with us in 2024. When we heard she grew up on a farm and was in 4H we hired her on the spot! She comes from a great family; she’s a hard worker and loves animals. She’s on track to go to veterinary college this year and while we hate to see her go we’re so excited for her future!
Colten Wyenberg
Colton is a prairie boy, growing up in Manitoba before moving to BC. He has spent a good part of his life in trucks, on farms and in farm shops. He’s our equipment guy for maintenance and field operations. He’s got great interest in agriculture and is currently taking courses as a general farm technician! We value his positive attitude and curiosity.
Gerhard Koerner
Gerhard spent part of his career with his own construction business. He always enjoyed food production though and when he moved from Terrace to Sicamous with his wife Maria he thought farming might be a good career change. When he’s not building something, you can find him operating the feed-mill most days. Gerhard’s construction experience is incredibly valuable as is his attention to detail.

Our Philosophy
Farm for Tomorrow
We want our management decisions on partnerships, investments, soils, crops and animal welfare to have a long-term view. We want to see constant incremental improvement, and we want to build on the success of generations before and leave our kids with the opportunity to do the same.
Develop Long Term Relationships
We want our staff and customers to see us as partners in achieving their goals. We want our agreements to be mutually beneficial and we want to strengthen our industry and community.
Treat The Part As Part Of The Whole
Whether we’re talking soil health, seed purchasing, cover crops, grazing or nutrition, we have actively worked towards integrating production on our farm and diversifying what we do so we can have a positive influence on our supply chain. This most recently and most especially includes the feed and nutrition of our laying hens.
Innovate
We believe in the constant pursuit of potential. We strive to embrace new ideas, technologies and approaches that can help us adapt and improve the way we grow food. We encourage our team to be continuously learning and improving their skills.
Community Contributions
At Lakeland Feeds, we proudly support the Canadian Foodgrains Bank because we believe in helping communities around the world overcome hunger and build sustainable futures. By contributing to their efforts, we’re investing in long-term solutions that empower global farmers and provide emergency food aid where it’s needed most.

Lakeland Feeds attends the annual Okanagan 4-H Stock Show & Sale, and when we have the opportunity, we try to purchase a steer. 4-H provides youth with the guidance, resources, and opportunities to become contributing members of agriculture, their community, their country, and the world. It prepares them for various paths of life, and encourage them to find their sense of self, purpose, and responsibility. We are thrilled to support the leaders of tomorrow!
